PROGRAM SPONSOR

While most investors and entrepreneurs are busy managing their losses during the economic downturn, a brave few are launching new funds and enterprises. These contrarians are refocusing their attention on technologies developed on university campuses and in research laboratories. Join us as a group of early-stage investors and entrepreneurs discuss available funding options and provide insight for entrepreneurial success.

Our program will kick off with a review of the latest venture capital investment data as presented in the PricewaterhouseCoopers MoneyTree report. Next we will hear from two entrepreneurs who have explored alternatives for funding their research-based ventures. One who has successfully secured venture funding is Julie Schoenfeld of OEwaves, and she will describe her company's critical path to obtaining capital. The other entrepreneur is Darius Modarress of VioSense, who currently is debating whether to continue on a steady path of organic growth or to accelerate that growth with an injection of outside capital.

After the entrepreneur presentations we will take a networking break. When we reconvene, we will poll the audience as to whether VioSense should stay its current course or seek venture capital. Thereafter, you'll be able to compare notes with the panellists as we hear their suggestions for optimizing the growth of such ventures through various financing resources, including some recently formed venture funds expressly designated for early-stage technology companies.
